Gentle Monster Dreamer Hoff

I remember hearing that the worst designer purchase to make are sunglasses. They're fragile, easy to lose, and the price markup is huge. But after going through so many cheap ones that bent out of shape after wearing it just once, I decided to see what the real difference was when it came to high end sunglasses.

I've been eyeing these Gentle Monster sunglasses but was going to wait until my trip to Korea to get them. However that's not until August, when summer is basically over. Plus my eyes have become super sensitive lately due to wearing contacts so much and it's been quite sunny so I decided to get them now from SSENSE (they're also having a huge sale right now!!).

Every single part of the sunglasses were wrapped and the leather case feels so buttery. What I love about these sunglasses is that they're made for Asian noses, which are usually flat like mine. I don't experience any slipping or sliding with these shades despite the lack of nose pads. Additionally, in Korea having a small face is a good thing, and oversized sunglasses give the same illusion. A lot of models have been buying the huge Celine ones, but these are half the price! Gentle Monster also uses Zeiss lenses, which offer 100% UV protection. The sad thing about having a short torso is that when I'm in the car and the sun is shining on me, flipping down the sun visor doesn't do anything 😑. Apparently you shouldn't use it while driving anyways because it blocks your vision, so you're supposed to use sunglasses instead. These actually help a lot and the great thing is that when I wear them, the lenses don't make my vision super dark or weird colours. Everything looks normal!

Although these are made in China, they're pretty thick and you can feel the quality. Celebrities such as Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun have also been spotted wearing The Dreamer! If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to Gentle Monster sunglasses, the Edward Avila x NYBK glasses linked here and here are made in the same factory. Use the code 'edward' to get an additional $10 off too!!

I've noticed these Gentle Monster shades becoming really popular lately but they're $290USD whereas these ones I've ordered from Aliexpress that look exactly the same cost $2.89USD LOOOL. The ones from Aliexpress took about 40 days to arrive but the quality is actually pretty impressive for the price haha.

I also like Gentle Monster's Didi D and La Rouge (as seen on Jessica Jung but not available online😭), which seems to be a more feminine version of The Dreamer but I did get these shades from the mens section anyway. If you don't like the sides on The Dreamer then Absente seems to be a good choice too.

I think it's safe to say I'm in love with Gentle Monster and can see why it's grown into a multimillion dollar brand. I can't wait to visit their flagship stores in Korea too! Check out Joan's vlogs and you'll see how cool it is. Maybe I'll end up buying another pair there hehehe.

Have a great week everyone! Enjoy the sun and keep your eyes safe~
