5 Memorization/Study Tips You Never Knew

photo creds

Since finals are upon my university friends, I thought it would be a great idea to post some study tips I learned in my biology class!

1. Hand write your notes
Don't type! Writing engages your entire arm and sends more neurons to your brain, making you more aware of what you're studying.

2. Use different colours when writing
Don't stick to the typical dark blue and black! Studies show that you memorize better when you have colourful notes. I use purple for plain notes (green for bio ofc), pink for definitions, and light blue for examples. Make your own colour code!

3. Read your notes aloud & point to labels on diagrams
Physically hearing you read your notes and using hand motions can help you absorb more of what you're learning. The point is to use all of your senses for ultimate neuron activity!
Bonus: Have a specific list you need to memorize? Repeatedly read it aloud! This definitely works for me.

4. Increase your BDNF (Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor)
How? By exercising! You can find more about this here.

5. During breaks, watch a comedy
When I heard this tip, I smiled so much because I loveeee comedies. Some of my favourites are Bob's Burgers and Arrested Development. K-Dramas also never fail to make me laugh! Have you ever noticed how you remember moments where you were super happy? Enabling our emotions cause us to memorize better!

What are your study tips? Let me know in the comment section below!
